Anzac Day Driveway Observance

Published by Peter Collins on

Calling all Naval Association of Australia Sandgate Sub-Section members!

For this coming Anzac Day, veterans are encouraged to participate in the Driveway Observance Campaign at 6am on 25 April 2020, and — for posterity — to share with your shipmates an image of your own personal involvement in this (hopefully) once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon.

Here’s how to get involved:

Have someone take a photograph of you (head and shoulders — and holding your candle — will be OK) and e-mail that image (or share a post with that photo to this Facebook feed) to webmaster@navalassociationsandgate.org.au

Just add a little caption that includes the following details:—

  1. 1. Your name (and former rank if you care to);
  2. 2. Your age;
  3. 3. And the name of the last (or your favourite) ship you served on.
  4. That’s it.

The images will be collated to make a post on this FB feed to show the community just how Sandgate Sub-Section veterans chose to:

— Remember The Fallen;

— Remember their former shipmates who have crossed the bar;

— Show solidarity with veterans everywhere who gladly would have taken part in Anzac Day marches or the Dawn Service solemn observance, but for the necessity to maintain social distancing to contain the spread of this dreadful COVID-19 pandemic.

Over to you. Once Navy. Always Navy.
